After a sensual night of "double dating" with his friend Dorian, Ryan's interest in sharing beautiful women suddenly dwindles when he develops an urge to share a sexual romp with Dorian and his tongue instead.

EXCERPT:

"Man, Katelyn was so sexy last night. When I was inside her, I came almost instantly." Dorian's chuckle was short. "I felt bad that I didn't make her come before I did."

"It happens to the best of us."

"Never happened before." Dorian poked Ryan's chest, grinning. "We usually make the ladies come at least twice before we do. I like them to leave completely satisfied."

"Yeah, she really had me going." Ryan poured another shot. "That body. That ass!"

"Right." Dorian's eye cut to Ryan's crotch again. "You were definitely into it." The grin on Dorian's face made Ryan wonder. Could he tell that Ryan was hard ... for him? "Are you gonna offer me a shot or what?" Dorian hopped down from where he sat on the counter. "Sure looks good."

The flirtatious way those last words slipped from Dorian's lips made Ryan look up just in time to witness Dorian slowly slide his tongue from one corner of his mouth to the other. Ryan gulped, swallowing hard enough for anyone standing as close as Dorian was to hear it. "Yeah, sure." He cleared his throat. "You want lime with that?" he asked as he offered the glass.

“Yep. No salt though." Dorian picked up the wedge of lime from the counter and took the shot glass from Ryan. "Here we go," he said playfully and winked. He drank the warm liquor and quickly followed it with a bite into the flesh of the lime. He swallowed then laughed as a mixture of lime juice and tequila dripped down his smooth-looking, shaven chin.

How weird would it be to pull Dorian against him and lick the stray juice from his skin? How would Dorian react to that kind of blatant gesture? The way Dorian had looked at his crotch a beat too long, followed it with a "Sure looks good," and a lick of his lips gave Ryan confidence. Suddenly licking the stray juice from his friend's lips and chin might not be so weird after all.

“What?" Dorian asked through his laughter while he wiped the stray juice with the back of his hand. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

“Like what?" Ryan looked away sheepishly. Any confidence vanished. He quickly glanced at his friend's full lips just to look away again. Damn, now he was acting prude.

“What’s wrong?" Dorian placed a hand gingerly on Ryan’s shoulder, concern riding on his words. "You're acting . . . different."

Did Dorian not know what he'd just done to him? He turned Ryan into a horny but shy school girl with a lick of his lips. “Nothing’s wrong." Ryan placed the liquor bottle back on the counter. "Just been thinking . . ." Maybe he shouldn’t mention last night.

“What about?"

Their eyes met each other's. "Nothing." Ryan shook his head. "It's nothing."

“Oh, come on." Dorian grinned and hoisted himself back up on the counter and sat directly in front of Ryan. "Suddenly something has you acting all shy and stuff. Spill it already.  Is it Katelyn? God, she was hot. I hope you're not getting tired of our double dates. That it?"

How could he be tired of pleasuring sexy women and fulfilling their fantasies with his best friend? The women got double the fun but he and Dorian got something out of it too, pleasure, closeness, and some fun, satisfying, much needed release. What a question. He and Dorian have been double dating since freshmen year in college with no issue, no jealousy and no complaints. Unless Ryan counted not being able to pleasure his friend the way he pleasured so many women.

Questions I've Been Asked Pertaining to Writing & the Candid Answers: Part 1

I've been asked a variety of questions over the years. Some questions been asked multiple times, some are a little odd, some are simple and only people not involved in the publishing business would seek the answer.  So below are some of those questions with simple, detailed and honest answers.

Why don't you write a book about your family or how you grew up?

I get this question mostly from my family or those I grew up with.

Simple answer:
No one cares about anyone else's lives unless they're celebrities or had a truly unique upbringing.

Detailed answer:
Frankly, I like writing plots from my imagination more. Although I believe my life story may have been a bit dysfunctional and entertaining to some (who doesn't think they're upbringing was dysfunctional?), I also believe some stories are best told to a therapist and not the public. Besides, who are we that anyone would care anyway?

I could write it for the family instead of publishing it for the public. Still a possibility is that the people included in the story won't appreciate how I represent them? This is the sole reason I don't create characters from true life friends and relatives.

Which brings me to …

Why don't you write a book about my life?

Simple answer:
We all have problems, secrets, and crazy things happen to us in our lives. Why are you so special?

Detailed answer:
See detailed answer above.

Why do you write about threesomes and sex?

Simple answer:
I enjoy writing about unconventional sexual relationships.  Also, what adult doesn't enjoy sex, even in fiction?

Detailed answer:
Threesomes are a hot theme (hot as in spicy and popular) in erotica and erotic romances. There is a huge market for it which means there are lots and lots of people who enjoy reading ménages. It's sexy, fun and a great way to engage in your fantasies without consequences. I can say the same about fictional sex in general. It doesn't matter if I'm writing or reading about it, I'm entertained either way.

Why do you write about Caucasian characters?

I think this question is one that comes from ignorance. Or a person assuming you're supposed to stick to your own kind even creatively.

Simple answer:
My stories are primarily about people, and if those people happen to be diverse so be it. It not required that I write for a specific community even if I'm placed in that group. I write for the communities I choose to write for. And I enjoy being unique, unpredictable and eccentric.

Detailed answer:
The heroes in my stories usually take on physical traits and other characteristics that I'm attracted to. And who they're attracted to works well for that character, even if they're attracted to Caucasians, African Americans, other men, none or all the above.  It's part of why writing what you love works so well for me.

Why do you write about homosexual characters?

See answers to question above.

Later I will post part 2 which delves more into questions I receive about publishing. Are there questions that are not listed above that you would like the candid answer to?

A Great Week for Progress!

The Great …

The great part of the week began with
  • Black Raven's (from Black Raven Reviews) 4 star review of my erotic romance Benefits of Sharing.

"... While the message is strong, the journey is the most intriguing part in Benefits of Sharing. If you’re looking for a well-written, fast-paced, sexy romp, where the lust is intense, the love is endearing between husband and wife, the sex is sizzling, and the truth will give you a new perspective on life, then Benefits of Sharing by Leslie Lee Sanders is definitely the book to read. It’ll put a smile on your face while making you hot and bothered in all of the right places." ~ Black Raven, full review here.

Then it progressed with
  • a great revelation about the direction of my writing career and where I need to focus. It was a huge confidence boost and I can't wait to apply what I've learned.

On it went when I received
  • a response to the email I sent to my newest favorite author of the successful sci-fi Wool series, Hugh Howey. Where after writing to tell him my emotional experience with his book Wool, he begins his response hinting how my letter needs to be framed. Nice! Made my day.

The Progress …

I then found the time and motivation to
  • finish the first draft of Before the Darkness! Yeah, I smacked "The End" on that baby. I still have to do the rewrite and also do some polishing on my next erotic romance Tongue Tied which will be available sometime this spring.

The week's not over but already I've completed a lot and have so much more to look forward to. And I can't wait! J

A Little Past Midnight

Halloween is here and in celebration I'll share a short scary story I wrote for my scary story book  I've written under L.L. Sanders The Stage of Horror: Volume One.

A Little Past Midnight

By Leslie Lee Sanders

Story cover images by Stephen R. Lobsinger

Blurb: Clara’s sister is awakened every night by a mysterious scratching sound at her window. She swears something is lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike.

Clara Smith had a strange feeling while walking home from work. Lately while waitressing, she has been worried about her sister Tami and wondered why Tami was feeling so anxious.

Her sister was due to graduate from Wakefield High in a few months and had recently moved into the apartment across the hall from her. Clara assumed most of her anxiety came from those stresses.

It was a little past midnight. Tami had to be in her apartment sleeping but just in case Clara wanted to check on her to make sure everything was fine. She entered her apartment building and went straight toward the elevators. After getting off on the tenth floor she walked down the long, quiet hall to Tami’s apartment door.

She had her own key that Tami had given her for emergencies. But before unlocking the door and entering, she decided to listen for a sign that Tami was awake. She stood near Tami’s apartment door and listened.

Nothing.

She stood there for a moment with her hand on the doorknob and the key millimeters from the lock, debating whether or not to intrude on her sister’s privacy. Maybe she was sleeping. Everything had to be okay.

Clara decided to just go to bed herself. She had a long, stressful day and couldn’t wait to relax. Inside her own apartment she got herself a cup of milk and was just about to get in bed when there was a loud and urgent knock on her door. Clara looked at the clock. It read twelve forty-five. Who could be at the door and what was so important? She immediately thought of Tami and rushed to the door.

Tami stood there shaking in her skin. She rung her hands together and stared straight ahead with eyes as wide as an owl’s.

Clara placed her hand on Tami’s shoulder. “What’s wrong? What happened?”

Tami looked passed her, staring at the wall directed behind Clara across the room. “There’s something in my room. I have no idea what it is or what it wants.”

Clara quickly pulled Tami inside and shut the door behind her. Tami slowly walked to the sofa. She sat and hugged herself as if she were standing in the middle of a blizzard. She was wearing her night-clothes and looked like she had been awakened from sleep.

Clara narrowed her eyes. “Are you sure you weren’t just dreaming?”

Tami shook her head and continued to hug herself but this time she rocked slightly.

Clara looked over Tami. The way she rocked and stared ahead frightened her. It was nearly summer and too warm for her to be freezing. “Tell me what happened.”

Tami shook her head and closed her eyes.

Clara folded her arms across her chest. “You have to tell me what happened if you want me to help you.”

“I was getting ready for bed, just like I do every night,” Tami said. “I put on my pajamas and I got under my blankets. I had left the light on in the hall, but I it flickered off. My room was completely dark except for the moon shining through my window. That’s when I heard a noise.”

“What kind of noise?”

“It was a scratching sound that came from outside of my bedroom window.” Tami looked at Clara and hugged herself tighter. “I know we’re on the tenth floor, so it couldn’t be a cat trying to get in or something. I was really scared. That’s when I decided to get up and see what was making the scratching sound. But when I tried to throw the blankets aside, I couldn’t move. I was paralyzed!”

“So what did you do?” Clara asked.

“I tried to scream but nothing came out,” Tami said. “I panicked. The scratching sound got louder and I grew more frightened. Finally, I was able to break out of it. I jumped out of bed and ran over here to you.”

Clara didn’t know what to think. It was possible that Tami just had a nightmare, but Tami looked terrified. “What do you think happened?” Clara asked.

Tami shrugged. “I don’t know but I was scared motionless.”

“You think you were just having a terrible nightmare?” Clara asked. “Sometimes I dream of trying to run but I can’t move. It’s like I’m running in wet cement that’s starting to harden around my legs.”

“I wasn’t dreaming, Clara.” Tami wiped away a tear that settled on her cheek. “This was too real.”

Clara nodded. “How about this, I walk you home and we’ll check it out together?”

Tami nodded and they both walked over to the apartment. Clara looked around the room to make sure everything was okay. The window was closed there was nothing on the window to indicate something was ever there. The light in the hall didn’t work, but maybe the bulb was blown.

Tami looked around the room with her eyes. “So? What do you think?”

Clara sighed. “I think you were just dreaming.” She rubbed Tami’s shoulder to try to comfort her. “Just relax. Go back to bed and I will see you in the morning.”

Tami nodded and Clara saw herself out.

The next day was like every other day. Tami went off to school while Clara went to work. As soon as work was over, Clara was on her way home. She walked along the dark secluded road when she got a strange feeling. Immediately she worried about Tami. All day during work she was thinking of her and what had happened the other night. It was a little past midnight and Clara had an urge to check on Tami. She needed to make sure she was alright in order to calm her nerves.

She entered the building and went straight toward the elevators. After getting off on the tenth floor she walked down the long, quiet hall to Tami’s apartment door.

She put her ear to the door and listened for and sign that Tami was awake. She didn’t hear a thing. Instantly, she felt better and decided to go to bed herself. She entered her apartment and sat on her bed. When she was just about to slip under her covers there was a loud knock on her door. Clara glanced at the clock and got out of bed. It read twelve-fifteen.

She ran to the door to find Tami standing on the other side sweating bullets. “What’s wrong? What happened?” she asked.

“There’s something in my room,” Tami said.

“Come inside,” Clara said and made room for Tami to enter. “What’s in your room?”

Tami shrugged. “I was getting ready for bed, just like the night before. I put on my night clothes and I got under the blankets. It was dark and only the light of the moon shone through my window. That’s when I heard a noise.”

“What noise?” Clara asked.

“It was that scratching noise but this time it wasn’t coming from outside the window. It was coming from under my bed! I was scared, really scared. I wanted to get up and investigate the sound. But, when I tried to get out of bed I couldn’t move. I was paralyzed!”

“And then?” Clara nodded, fixing her big brown eyes on Tami’s.

“I tried to scream but nothing came out. I panicked. The scratching sound got louder and I grew more frightened. Finally, I was able to break out of it. So, I jumped out of bed and ran over here to you.”

Clara’s eyebrows came together. “Maybe you were just dreaming again. Come on, I’ll walk you home.”

When Clara walked Tami back to her apartment, she went and searched the room for the cause of the scratching sound. After fifteen minutes of searching and finding nothing, Clara sat on the corner of the bed and watched her sister fall asleep. Clara kissed her forehead, turned the light on that hung over her bed and went home to go to sleep herself.

The next day everything was normal. Tami went off to school while Clara went to work. After work, Clara was walking home when she got that strange feeling again. She was even more worried about Tami and it made her shiver with anxiety. Clara needed to check on Tami to calm her nerves.

After getting off the elevators, she walked down the long, quiet hall to Tami’s apartment door. She put her ear to the door to listen and heard nothing.

She decided to go to bed and let Tami sleep. She would check on her in the morning. But as soon as she entered her apartment and sat on her bed there was a loud and urgent knock on her door. Clara looked at the clock. It was just a little past midnight.

She ran to the door and when she opened it this time, Tami stood there covered in blood. Small cuts were visible on her face and arms.

“Oh, my god! What happened?” Clara rested her hand on Tami’s shoulder. “Come inside,” she said and walked her into her apartment.

Tami shook her head and let tears fall from her eyes. “I was in bed and I heard the same scratching noise. This time it wasn’t coming from outside of my window or from under the bed. It was coming from my closet. I tried to run over here but I couldn’t move. I was paralyzed!”

“But what happened to you? Why are you bleeding?” Clara shook her head, confused,

“The scratching sound got louder and the light over my bed got brighter. Before I knew it, the light shattered and pieces of the glass went flying everywhere. Finally, I was able to move. I jumped out of bed and ran over here to you.”

Clara looked at Tami’s wounds, thinking. “Maybe it’s something electrical that’s making the sound and caused your light to do that. Come on, let’s go check it out.”

Clara and Tami both searched the room fully. They even went through the closet. When they didn’t find the cause of the sound, they replaced the light bulb and cleaned up the glass. Clara stayed with Tami until the morning.

Tami decided to stay home from school while Clara went to work. After work, Clara was walking home when she got that same strange feeling. She had been so worried about Tami all day she couldn’t even do her job properly.

She quickly entered the building and went straight toward the elevators. After getting off on the tenth floor she walked down the long, quiet hall to Tami’s apartment door.

She put her ear to the door and heard nothing. She turned the doorknob and to her surprise the door was unlocked. Clara slowly walked inside. She didn’t want to wake her up. The apartment was pitch-dark. There wasn’t a light on anywhere in the place. She began to worry.

“Tami?” Clara called out as she flipped the light switches on the way to Tami’s bedroom. Tami didn’t respond. She made it to her bedroom which was completely dark. The only light was the light of the moon that shone through the window. She could barely see that Tami was snuggled in bed with the blankets over her head.

“Tami?” Clara whispered. “It’s me, Clara. I came over to check on you.”

There was still no answer. So Clara decided to just wake her up. She went to the bed and pulled the covers aside. Shock and horror filled her veins when she saw that her beloved sister’s body lay in a bed of blood and was missing the head.

Later, while police was busy trying to find the person responsible, Clara quit her job. All she could do was stay at home and cry. Thoughts crossed her mind and questions were left unanswered like, “Who would do that to Tami and why?”

Clara got into bed to dream away her worries, but as soon as she closed her eyes a noise coming from her front door awakened her. Clara looked at the clock. It was just a little past midnight. She lay in bed and tried to figure out what might be causing the deep scratching sound she heard. It almost sounded like a big cat with huge claws scratching the wall to get to the juicy mouse that hid on the other side.

When it hit her that the sound might be the same sound Tami had been hearing before her death, Clara became frightened. She tried to get up out of bed but she couldn’t move. She was paralyzed.

Suddenly through the wall appeared a shadowy figure that resembled her dead sister except it had long, stringy hair and blood red eyes. Clara closed her eyes willing it to go away. Maybe she was dreaming. Maybe the stress was getting to her. Maybe she was going insane. When she opened her eyes the figure was there, but this time it hovered over her head with its mouth gaping, showing several rows of sharp, jagged teeth. She tried to scream as its mouth clamped over her head.

Before the Darkness Progress

I am officially at 21,233 words written in my upcoming MM, post-apocalyptic erotic romance story, Before the Darkness. This story revolves around two survivors of an asteroid impact who are forced to confront their pasts in order to appreciate their second chance at life and possibly make for a better future.

Currently, I'm at a critical point in the story, (or the most critical) the climax. Which is good! That means I'm almost to the end.

The problem?

Well, I'm not quite sure where I want this story to end. The initial ending I had planned for it might end at 30k words. However, another possible ending wouldn't be met until about 50k words.

If I go with the initial ending, readers might want an extension. Which will result in a series that I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to. There's other stories I want to complete too.

If I go with the other ending, it may take longer than I want it to, it would require tons to rewrite and edit, and I'm not sure I'm ready for that either. Not to mention the climax I'm about to write will probably be just one of the big incidences that move the story forward to the "real" climax.

When I outlined and started writing Before the Darkness, I had it all set in my head; the beginning, middle and end. Now, the story's kinda taking on a life of its own (including the characters) and I'm a bit afraid of where it might lead me.

I'm not good with unpredictable. I like to have a plan and stick to it. Anyway, we shall see where this takes me. Who knows, maybe it will turn out to be better than I imagined if I just tell the story that wants to be told, instead of limiting the story by keeping it confined to my outline.

Before the Darkness Progress

Currently, I am at 12,500 words in my latest WIP, Before the Darkness. The way the story is going I expect to finish it somewhere around 20k-30k words, although it can be longer. I can't seem to find the time to work on it as much as I want to. I hope this weekend I can write a big chunk of it because I want to finish it before the end of the year.

The elevator pitch:

After an asteroid strikes Earth, sending a wall of ash and other debris into the atmosphere, Elliot meets fellow survivor Adam and together they take advantage of the next few hours, learning to appreciate their second chance at life and live it to the fullest.

The problem:

The research.  Asteroids are tricky to write about, especially an asteroid impact with Earth. Even though the story focuses more on the inner conflict of the main characters, the impact is what sets the story in motion and contributes to the story's tension, adding suspense, raising the stakes and providing exterior conflict. Therefore, it's very important that the impact and the effects of impact are realistic.

I hope to finish the first draft before the end of the year. Hell, some writers can do it in thirty days. That would be nice!

Blurb:

Cara is unenthusiastic about her upcoming thirtieth birthday. Maybe her husband's eighteen-year-old coworker Isaac could add some excitement.

Cara Matthews is about to turn thirty, and for her, it’s the death of her youth and the beginning of the dull years. Her husband, James, is aware of her sudden grief and surprises her with something that should take her mind off of aging: young Isaac.

Maybe Isaac can help Cara create her very own wild and crazy experience to share—in more ways than one—and help her transition smoothly from her twenties to her thirties.

Cara is all too eager to finally experience the excitement she's been desperately craving, but she's also a little skeptical. Exactly who is Isaac, and why is he so eager to please?

Excerpt:

"Hi," she greeted the delivery guy.

"Hello," he said with such a deep voice, she did a double take just to be sure the sound came from the tall young man standing before her. He smiled. "Cara Matthews? These are for you."

"Thank you." Her husband was definitely the best. Already his gift had cheered her up.

The delivery guy handed her the dark purple irises in their clear glass vase. They were her favorite color and flower. "There's a note in the middle for you." He beamed.

"Oh, I already know who they're from." She smiled again, said "thank you," closed the door, and turned to go back inside. Once in the kitchen, she set the flowers down on the center of the table and smelled a few of them. A fresh, sweet floral scent filled her nostrils. Perfect. She grabbed her cocoa and quickly drank the rest of it before washing the mug and putting it back in the cabinet. Then she sat down at the kitchen table before her leather-bound diary. She glanced at the flowers and the little white note that stuck up from the purple petals. She carefully plucked it out and read it.

We talked about the benefits of "sharing," and I think it's the perfect time to do just that. You deserve a special gift for a special day, and he's outside waiting for you. Now invite Isaac in, and be sure to thoroughly thank him. Happy birthday!

Love, James.

Cara read and reread James's message. Was she reading it clearly? They had talked about what fun it would be to invite someone into their bed for a threesome. They even laughed at how it could further strengthen their marriage, but she had thought the entire conversation was just a joke, a way of entertaining themselves. She turned the card over, expecting to read, Gotcha! I cheered you up, didn't I? But no such words were there. It was blank.

Isaac?

Was James serious?

Cara immediately went back to the front door and looked through the peephole again. There he was, the delivery guy, pacing back and forth on the porch.

"This must be a joke," she mumbled and cracked the door opened. She peeked through the slit. "Isaac?"

He grinned and stared at her with light brown eyes. "You gonna invite me in?"

"Who are you?" she asked, frowning, unsure.

"I'm Isaac. James sent me."

"For what?" Cara glared, waiting for him to confirm what was written on the note.

He laughed uneasily and whispered, "To help you feel better," then winked.

Although she was a bit hesitant, Isaac looked harmless and even a little tense. She opened the door wider to get a better look at the guy.
